three dog party business

i keep wracking my brain to come up with new things to make for the etsy shop. tonight i silkscreened the secretary logo onto a round mousepad from ikea that cost 99 cents. i just listed it for $6 on etsy, so we'll see how that goes. a $5 profit would be wonderful.

my roommate, greensleeves, has been as fierce as an america's next top model winner, posing for me with guns blazing in all kinds of silkscreened goodwill-purchased tees. tonight, after we completed photographing some shirts, we did an insane photoshoot with the purloined life-size plastic rooster (chuggen). in the pictures i look like i am on pcp--rooster perched atop my head, my arms akimbo, armpits unshaven, hair frizzed out, eyeballs bulging with the effort of keeping the rooster balanced on its perch. i could just imagine jay manuel screaming at me, "work it!" and then grimacing in disappointment that i was not "owning" the rooster. god i can't wait for season 5 to start....

i have been wondering, (in a purely capitalist/materialistic sense) what do baby-owners want? er, i mean parents. they love to spend money on baby clothes, but would they be moved to purchase a 'onesie' with a dog and typewriter on it? or a secretary logo? or some other kitschy retro imagery? i am curious to try this out, maybe on a onesie purchased from goodwill.

i have been getting suggestions from various etsy buyers for new items they would like to see as well as an offer from some woman to sell stuff wholesale in her store somewhere in virginia(?). it is amazing how well things have been selling, and while i feel overwhelmed i also feel ecstatic and driven. all of those hoarded craft supplies have not been hibernating in my cupboard in vain. somebody in hawaii just purchased one of the secretary tees. how cool that while i have never been to hawaii (and can't forsee financing a trip anytime soon), i will be there in some form through the shirt i made. i can live vicariously through it--on a cold snowy night i will dream about how it is basking in the sun beside the surf.

if this all keeps up maybe next year we will do renegade craft fair. maybe we will start a new haven based bizarre bazaar. hurrah for the proliferation of three dog party iconography!
