soma, bowl cuts, and hot cats

last night at 4am i gave myself a "bowl" haircut. (i like to refer to these nocturnal forays into extreme grooming as 'intuitive' rather than 'reckless'.) i luckily managed to trim the front bit with a decent amount of symmetry, and then tonight greensleeves finished up the sides and back. it is a big shaggy thing that hangs down over my ears and is identical to the haircut my grandmother gave me when i was 5. i love it for precisely this reason (again with the regressing), but also because it has solved the summer hair dilemma for me: whenever my hair is longer than my chin i have no idea what to do with it and it ends up living in a ponytail, which is boring, unstylish, and also puts strange pressure on my hair roots resulting in headache). of course it is entirely subjective whether my new cut is more or less stylish than a ponytail. i for one think it has an old-time charm, and ultimately (short of being ostracized by strangers) that is all that matters..

sitting here coding (which i am really painfully bad at and flounder through holding my breath and chewing on pen caps) and listening to soma fm's indie rock station (ooh the delights of this station!) my hair is still wet from showering despite an hour having passed. it is that humid. but i am happy to have the night to myself. shaggy muggy hair and music and cats heat-languishing on the floor like odd rugs...rustling of trees outdoors anticipating storms and an unceasing desire for ice cream.
